Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones
Take a few simple steps to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke in your environment.
- Post “Thank you for not smoking” signs in your home, office, and car.
- Let your family, friends, and colleagues know that you prefer them not to smoke near you or your loved ones.
- Keep your home and car smoke-free by asking smokers to light up outside.
- When other adults are entrusted with your children’s care, ask them to protect your kids from secondhand smoke.
- If you smoke, get help to quit. In the meantime, avoid smoking in areas where others might breathe your smoke.
- If you work in a restaurant or bar that is not smoke-free, talk to your manager or supervisor about what can be done to make it smoke-free. Educate them about the health effects of secondhand smoke and how a ban would not affect the restaurant’s revenue.
